Okay, let's talk prizes!

And today's prize ...

Rumors of war hang over Princess Jeniah's peaceful country of Arden, a land that shuns both magic and warfare. Following a lifelong dream, Jeniah forms a telpathic bond with a revered creature called a chayim, who is prophesied to save her kingdom. But when a Darborian knight comes upon Jeniah with her chayim, he sees only a vicious monster about to devour a maiden, and he slays the beast.

Devastated by the loss of her chayim, and fearing that her own magic is evil, Jeniah doubts her destiny. When an enemy invades Arden City, they slaughter the people, storm the castle, and execute the entire royal family except the princess. Rescued by the knight who slew her chayim, Jeniah is now heir to the throne of Arden and the only hope for freeing her people from tyranny.

On the run and hunted by enemy soldiers, Jeniah must place her life and the fate of her kingdom in the hands of this trained killer. Torn between embracing her destiny as queen of Arden, and her love for a mere knight, she must ultimately rely on her magic to save herself and her people from death and tyranny.

And, yes, in keeping with the theme, there are horses in this book.  :)

I'm following Donna now, too. I'm in my "regency" phase of reading lately, so I'm going to check into some of her other titles. I'm always amazed at the capacity of writers to create unusual worlds and creatures and people whose problems are not really very different from our own. Though they function in a strange world, it has internally consistent rules that govern them. Fascinating.

I did the first 4 for extra entries. I've heard about Donna's books and this one sounds like a great read and who doesn't want to win a book. :)

Thanks for stopping by, everyone. I guess I should clarify, they don't ride horses, they ride duocorns (delicate horses with two horns who can climb like a goat.) Hey, what can I say? It's a fantasy so it's a totally made up creature. So is the chayim :-)

Hi! I'm following both you and Donna. I really haven't read much historical fiction/fantasy...I began my own review blog a few months ago and a personal goal was to branch off and read new authors and new genres. Sounds like a perfect book for my quest.
