Happy Anniversary Day #2: My First Published Book

Hey everyone,

Welcome to Day #2 of my Happy Anniversary celebration! Please leave a comment to enter to win a copy of Liz Adair's novel Cold River. Click here to read the rules and the description of Liz's book.

Ten years ago this month, my first novel Nothing to Regret was published, the book that launched me on this whole crazy path of being a writer.

LDS historical fiction
Granite Publishing

Ken Sugihara was a student at Berkeley at the time of Pearl Harbor. He is shocked to hear about the attack, but even more shocked when he discovers that all people of Japanese ancestry in the United States, especially those living on the West Coast, are now considered suspects in the attack. He and his parents are taken from their home and sent to a relocation center in the Utah Desert, where they must decide for themselves where their loyalties lie. A story of prejudice and acceptance, dignity under the worst conditions, and the power of the Atonement to heal us all.

Parents joke all the time about how they make all their mistakes on their first children, and that every child after that benefits from what they learned. This is definitely true about publishing a book. I had no idea what I was doing, and I learned a lot along the way. I had to give up a lot of pride and do a bunch of rewriting and revising, but when all was said and done, we ended up with a very good book (if I do say so myself). Nothing to Regret received a lot of really positive feedback from critics and reviewers, and I still get letters from readers who found a copy at their local library and enjoyed it.

This novel is out of print, but there are a few copies left on Amazon.  In addition, I have plans to bring it back into print in the near future - stay tuned for more information on that ... and yes, everyone who has been asking, I'm making this book into a trilogy, so there will be two brand-new novels with these characters. Again, stay tuned for more information.

Okay, so those are the details on my very first-ever published book. I feel all nostalgic just thinking about it, and can't believe it's been ten years already.

A reminder that today's contest is to win a copy of Liz Adair's novel Cold River.  Leave a comment in this trail before midnight Utah time tonight, and your name might be chosen by Random.org to win!!
