Conference Class Supplements

This weekend, I taught a class at the LDStorymakers writers conference about bringing your spouse along on your writing journey and having support from him/her in your goals. I was very pleased to have my husband there with me, and we had a wonderful time teaching together.

In the class, I mentioned some articles that emphasize how important it is that we take the time to hone our talents. Here are the links to those articles:

"Filling the World with Goodness and Truth" by M. Russell Ballard

"The Gospel Vision of the Arts" by Spencer W. Kimball

"The How and Why of Faith-promoting Stories" by Bruce R. McConkie

"Every Good Gift" by Robert D. Hales

"The Arts and the Spirit of the Lord" by Boyd K. Packer

"Creativity" by Neal A. Maxwell

I have rarely been so inspired and wanted to share these incredible articles with you. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

*You may remember these articles from last year - I did post them then as well. What can I say - they're great articles and very applicable to nearly every topic. The comments in the trail so far are from last year, as I updated this post.

Very cool, thanks for sharing. I am still sad that I missed hearing you live though. Next year I will for sure have to hit both days. It was awesome!

This is a great video and I love it.

By the way, you, Jaime, and Matthew did a phenomenal job of "narrating" the Whitney Awards! Thank you SO MUCH FOR THAT!!!! (Plus, you're all HILARIOUS!)

Haley,

It was so fun to have you there on Friday! Next year, yes, please do try to hit both days. You will have such a wonderful time.

Lexicon,

Thanks for the kudos. We had a great time. It took us a full half hour to get the laptop I was using to work, and for a while it looked like I might not be able to live blog after all. That just about broke my little heart and so we continued to persevere until I was online, and then had an awesome time.

Tristi,

I just read through the article by Neal A. Maxwell and I am sure the others are equally awesome. I can't wait to have a minute to read those. THANK YOU. Sincerely, the message in that article touched me deeply and reaffirmed my need to express the gifts Heavenly Father has given me and I thought of many people I met at the conference and hope that they will read these messages as well. I'm soooo sad I missed your lesson but I will be sure to continue to look to you as a great example of the lesson you taught on being both a great writer and a fabulous MOM. You Rock, sister.

Tristi,
Your class was wonderful and just what I needed. I love that video. Had it posted on my blog a few weeks ago because I find it so inspiring.

See you next week.

Wow! Thanks for the links. I have read "The Arts and the Spirit of the Lord," before, and it totally blew me away - it reshaped my whole approach to my music. I am going to start reading the rest of them now. I love it when General Authorities speak on creativity.

From the comments, it seems you are as great at teaching as writing! This sounds like such a fascinating class. I am taking a workshop on finding our charisms, gifts of the spirit. Especially enjoyed the article you listed by Robert Hales.

What impeccable timing! I have just decided to persue writing in a more meaningful way, and my husband and I were discussing how this will fail if I don't have his 100% support. Thanks for the articles!
