Kicking Off American Idol Season #7

It's Valentine's Day, the day of love, so let's talk about something I love. I love American Idol. I watch it every year, from the auditions to the finale. I look forward to it all week, I'm cranky if I don't get to watch it, and I like to blog about it. Like now.

Last night, the top twenty-four were revealed. Some of the choices were great, and others, I didn't agree with. At this stage of the competition, it's hard to start comparing the contestants -- for production reasons, we didn't get to see all of them sing. After next week, the comparison will really begin. But based on what I've seen so far, I've got some favorites.

This is Michael Johns. There's something about his voice that just gets me right in the gut, in a good way. I'm predicting he's going to be in the top ten, and if he's not, there's no justice in this world. He's smooth, he's mellow, he's powerful, and he's professional. This guy is going places.

This is Carly Smithson. Wow, she's so good. She's got a lot of power to her voice, but it's perfectly controlled. She's absolutely amazing. Again, top ten, right here.

This cutey is David Archuleta, at the ripe old age of seventeen. I'm not just rooting for him because he's Mormon, but because he's got a great voice. It's mellow and controlled, and has a pure quality to it.

There you have it -- my top three favorites this far in the competition, in that order. After next week, I'll have a better idea about the talents of all twenty-four, but they'd have to do a lot to bump these three off my list.

I really liked Josiah, the blond kid who lived in his car. He made it to the top fifty, but had artistic differences with the band, chose to sing without them, and then slaughtered the song. I could have cried while he was singing, it was so bad, and I was so disappointed for him. I wish him the best of luck and hope we hear more from him in the future.

In forthcoming weeks, look for my Idol commentary on my sidebar. That's right -- I'm not going to post whole blogs about the show, unless something happens that's really awesome, or really ticks me off. But my sidebar will be updated with Idol opinions regularly.

Good summary of some of the top singers. I also like Brooke White (another Latter-day Saint). I'll be excited to see how all my favorites fare over the next few weeks!

I've only watched 1 week of auditions, I'm so behind! It's all on the DVR waiting for me to have time, at the same time DH has time, to watch them!

I've never watched this show and I feel almost un-American because of it.

Another thing we have in common -- American Idol. :^) I don't care for the cruel comments, although some of the stuff the judges have to contend with during the try-outs is horrendous! As for Josiah the car kid, I felt so sad for him because although the camera crew knew why he chose not to use the band, the judges obviously didn't/couldn't know. He was tired and very insecure (which, to Simon, came off as over-confidence), and I just wanted to hug the kid!

Fun blog post. I still have to review the top 24 to come up with top 10 wishes. I do like the three you've listed, but like you mentioned, there are some I didn't hear/see perform yet.

TTFN!

We liked Michael and David too, but we also liked the Janis Joplin chick (Amanda Overmyer) although Simon's right when he says she needs to learn to mix it up. But we also liked Brook White.

By the way, Michael is the one Donny Osmond picked to win the whole thing this year. So we'll see if we're all right.
