Sunshine Almost Always Makes Me High

Actually, it's the smell of latex that's making me high.

We did something today we have never, ever done before. We took all four of our children down to Wal-Mart and bought them bicycles. I've wanted to get them bikes for several months now, and when our income tax refund came in, we decided that's what we should do with part of it. I didn't have a bike growing up and I'm kind of weird about wanting stuff for my kids that I didn't have, so today was fun for me, maybe even more fun for me than for them.

They've had bikes from the DI before, but the bikes never really fit and they were beat up to start with and you know how it is.

But, see, I didn't think about getting a bike lock, and I don't want to set the new bikes outside overnight without a bike lock. And it's late on Saturday night and I'm not going back out to get a bike lock. So the bikes are in the living room overnight -- we're going to get a lock on Monday -- and we'll set them outside during the day (you know evil loves darkness and they never would get stolen in daylight).

New bike tires really smell, you know that?

How fun. My kids always look forward to spring so we can go on bike rides together.

How exciting about the bikes! I never had a new bike; they always came from someplace like the DI.

Tristi,

Thanks for a long series of laughs. I wish you lived closer; I think we could be good friends.

I discovered your blogs just now when I realized that "Mannheim Steamroller" in my profile was a hyperlink, and it led me to yours. We have a lot in common, which led me to read further.

I don't usually watch Idol (I'm more of a NCIS/SVU fan), but I did catch "Over the Rainbow," and I agree with you completely.

I'm an author in embryo, non-fiction. I had, in fact, just posted an entry linking my publishing sites, which are hosted on yuku.

Anyway...just wanted to say "Hi" and "Thanks!"

Oh, your kids will love those bikes! And you were smart to keep them inside because bikes are stolen every day.

You are an amazing blogger, Tristi. Great reviews are coming in on your book - - can I join the club? Or I'll buy one and review it anyway! One way or another I'll be talking about your book. I am awed by the historical writers and how much I learn by reading their books.

Even though Lund is not a great writer (he's wordy and redundant), I trusted him and got into his story because at the end of every chapter he had meticulous notes and explained where he had taken literary license.

Hope the apple juice issue is solved. That may be one story comcast hasn't heard from its customers!

Haha, that's great that you have bikes in your living room!

Actually, I really really like the smell of tires. Mmmm. =) It's a good job you're not pregnant, though, otherwise that smell might make you feel really nasty.

I remember when my parents bought me my bike. *happy sigh* Ahhh, good times, good times.

What a wonderful thing to do! I'm sure this will be one of your kids' favorite memories, the time they all got new bikes. There's nothing like a brand new, never been ridden by anybody else bike. Except maybe a brand new car. But, I wouldn't know about that:(

I totally remember when I got my first new bike - it was an Easter gift from my mom. She took us out to my aunt's farm and hid them in the four-wheeler shed. When we got there, we went to get out the four-wheelers - and there were our bikes! My brother and I rode them like crazy ALL day long. My aunt ended up turning on all the farm flood lights and we rode until mom finally made us pack up at about ten that night. It was awesome! I bet your kids are totally excited!

Also, I can just totally imagine how the new bike smell has completely filled your house from one end to the other. We used to have that problem too. Now you just can't escape it, huh? :)

Tristi, I can hardly wait until you move on to your next blog color scheme. This one is so difficult for me to read. Dark backgrounds just don't work with my eyes. The problems take the joy out of reading your posts.

Sorry for the downer comment.

I'm sorry, Marsha! I just brightened the text a little. Does that help at all?

Yes, and of course, I keep forgetting that I can increase the size of the text in IE7 with a click or two in the lower right corner. :-)

Did you get a bike for yourself? It's never too late to live out your dreams, and how much more fun to do it with your children. I love the sunshine also! I'm getting tired of the wind though. We woke up to snow today! I'm in Southern Idaho, not Alaska!
