Happy Sunday!

Traci commented: "Okay, I just have to ask this. Do most of you write on Sundays, or do you take the day off?"

Personally, I think Traci's clairvoyant because I was just getting ready to post a blog to this very effect this very evening. So here it goes.

I don't write on Sundays. I have a couple of reasons for this, the first being religious. I pray a lot over my writing and I feel that if I want to ask God for His help in my endeavors, I should do what He asks me to do, which is to keep the Sabbath day holy. I know other authors who feel differently, but for myself, this is what I feel the most comfortable doing.

Secondly, just like our bodies need to lie down and rest every so often, so does our brain. We can hit life hard and heavy for six days out of the week, but if we don't slow down and give ourselves a recharge, we're cruisin' for a breakdown. Sunday is my day to refuel spiritually and physically. I go to church, come home and take a long nap. By the time Monday morning rolls around, I'm rarin' to go again.

I do take an occasional note on a Sunday. If I have a really good idea (which I frequently do, because after the recharge, I'm ready to go) on a Sunday, I'll jot down the basics of it and then I leave it at that. I also do visit my favorite inspirational blog sites.

So that's how I handle writing on Sundays.

With that, please continue to leave your word counts over the weekend, and join me here Monday morning as we kick off week #2. Wow, already??

I'm with you on this, Tristi--for all the same reasons. And I really do need that break from computer work. The machine grins at me every time I pass the room, tempting me in for a quick type. Saying "Nope," and walking on by is sometimes difficult, but worth it. I skip back on Monday.

Resting from this particular labor is a blessing for which I'm grateful.

Anything writing-related that I hope to earn money from down the road I don't do on Sundays. I will, however, do things I consider a "service" with my writing skills, like judge a contest for my library or something like that.

Thank you so much for that lovely answer to a simple question, Tristi. I have been contemplating this very same thing the past couple of months and was refreshed to realize that someone else had come to the same conclusion as I have. Cindy at Rosehaven Cottage

I'm glad I'm not alone on this one. Generally I like to spend my Sundays recharging and giving my family that extra time that they sometimes sacrifice when I'm on the computer.

My general rule has been that if it feels like work, it is. I do occasionally jot down an idea or read over something that I've written recently, but mostly I love a more relaxed pace, or at least a different focus.

Thought provoking post, Tristi. Alas, I haven't got my momentum up enough to even consider writing on Sundays. Some day, I hope it will require restraint on my part!

Annette, I love your comment. You say, "Anything writing-related that I hope to earn money from" --isn't that always how it is? We hope to earn money, and then we see if it actually happens or not!

So, here's my count for today: 1,477. That came about with a little bit of copying and pasting from my first version and then filling in the holes and changing some things. Wouldn't you know, I decided the portion I did tonight should go before the portion I did yesterday, but I'm not letting Edith go back to move it. No, sir -- she can move it in October. If I let her get in there and start churning everything up, we may never get back to actually writing!

I like to save the "other" writing for Sunday--letters, which are also my journal. Personal essays.

500 words in the last two days--4500 for the week.

So much for perfection! Now I can relax!

Here's my count for yesterday. I managed 1200 words for a total of 6800 words so far. It's only about half of what I had hoped for by now, but I keep reminding myself that I hadn't planned on abridging an audio book this week.

Tomorrow I'll have to reevaluate my goals and decide if I should take a week off to work out a revision project or if I can do that and juggle a little bit of time for new writing. I just don't know how well my brain will shift from one story to another!

Good luck on week 2 everyone!

I have always worked hard not to write on Sunday, especially if it's something I would like to get paid for. I try to focus on my family and calling on Sunday, which is hard to do if I am on the computer.

Glad to see many of you agree.

My word count is suffering, especially after finding no time to write yesterday. But I hope to get back on top of things this week.

As for writing on Sunday, I agree with Annette. Anything I hope to earn money from doesn't get done on Sundays. I did write today though, finally finishing the primary program I am in charge of.
